Doc Swinson's Blenders Cut Bourbon is a blend of MGP’s 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley; and 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley mashbills. Aged around five years, with some batches including seven-year-old barrels, it is blended and bottled in Washington. The proof varies by batch, typically somewhere around 115.
Aside from the vanilla note on the finish, this whiskey just doesn't scream bourbon at the top of its lungs like other MGP rye-heavy bourbons do for me. The aromatics take a while to come around, but are interesting when they make their fashionably late entrance.
The blend of both MGP mashbills opens a new, bright acidity to counter the sweetness. This is a blend that’s right where it needs to be, maybe even better, showcasing its components while also demonstrating how a blend can elevate those components to a greater whole. By the way - the French Toast is still lingering on the tongue!
