Distilled by Dewars, aged for 8 years, and then finished in Caribbean Rum casks, this release is faintly reminiscent of Balvenie's Caribbean Cask, though it sells for about a third of the price.
An interesting twist to a mid-level Scotch. The rum barrels help with the sweetness and cuts down on the smoke and peat flavors. A true Scotch lover might not like the sweet flavors but I really enjoyed it as I'm not a huge peat fan. I personally like to taste more than just smoke.
The taste is fruity with touches of grilled pineapple, coconut, and banana balanced by hints of white pepper, ginger root, lemon zest, and a bit of molasses in the background that adds a nice complexity.
To call Caribbean Smooth straightforward would be an understatement, as it’s a fairly one-note experience that leans heavily on chocolate and caramel notes. That said, it’s a perfectly pleasant one, and if you have a sweet tooth you’re likely to gravitate to it significantly — especially with a price tag like this.
Not amazing, but perfectly approachable. It's interesting, and would also work fine enough mixed, perhaps in place of rum for an interesting take on some classic cocktails.

House Review
Nose:
Very sweet and fruit forward. Caramel apple, honey, praline and a touch of pear. Not super unique from Dewars typical profile, though the rum does appear to squash a bit of the light smoke that comes in Dewars blends.
Taste:
Thin on the palate. Sweet cream, a light rummy caramel character, a bit of honey and vanilla bean. Sweet for sure, no heat.
Finish:
Short finish, though pleasantly sweet. Cream, caramel, light toffee notes and some brown sugar.
Overall:
Not amazing, but perfectly approachable. It's interesting, and would also work fine enough mixed, perhaps in place of rum for an interesting take on some classic cocktails.
