Denizen Merchant’s Reserve is a blend of small batch Caribbean rums. The aged components of this edition were aged up to 8 years in ex-bourbon barrels and then bottled at 43% ABV.
Though it’s decidedly complex, unlike many agricoles on the market it’s just not much of a sipper due to its dearth of fruit and dialed-back sweetness. Try it with more elegant rum-based cocktails, however.

House Review
Nose:
Rich and bold on the nose, a combination of baking spice, rich fruits, some esters funk and a pop of citrus makes this an enticing pour on the nose.
Taste:
Moderate texture on the palate, pleasant blend of funk and structure with lots of baking spice, sweet oak, mango, banana and lime with a grit of funk and some really great coconut popping through.
Finish:
Long finish, pleasant and lovely. Honestly, this pours got a great balance of fruit, funk, some structure and a pinch of pepper.
Overall:
Nice work Denizen, this has the balance needed for a great rum to rock neat or in a cocktail and it manages to remain interesting throughout.
