Delamain Très Vénérable Grande Champagne Cognac, the oldest in Delamain's standard range, is a "Pale & Dry" expression. Made from eaux-de-vie sourced from Grande Champagne, it is bottled at 40% ABV.
The palate entry is fruity and spirity warm; the midpalate includes tastes of honey, orange peel, baked pear, cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, and rancio. Finishes as elegantly and assertively as it began.
This “extremely old” Cognac tastes, quite frankly, too old, picking up perhaps a charcoal-like character from all that time in the cask. Very woody and a tad bitter, it’s not my favorite of the line.
