This is an older batch of Tobala from Del Maguey—the first batch of 2014. Discovered hiding out on a local shelf, it's made in the mountains, as we’re told, and double distilled.

Fresh orange, citrus, faint latex paint. Sweet honey, bright fruit and a bright roasted agave note.
Bright and sweet on the palate, a big grassy note greets first. Confectioners sugar, pepper, a faint woody ash. Bright orange, mango, lemon zest. Cream cheese sweetness. Back palate has a bit of wood smoke.
Long finish. Bright and fruity, with the addition of some clay, slate and burning wood smoke. Almost a hickory note.
Overall, quite a nice Tobala. The complexity and combination of the fruits and the ashy component work well together, bringing plenty of flavor.
