  • Overall, I had doubts about a proofed version of a light whiskey release, but the port barrel is a key component here, adding a savory, rich undertone and a touch of extra tannin that light whiskey is often missing. Well done, goats.

  • Nose:

Sweet and dessert-y on the nose. Sweet honey, pancake syrup, red berries, a touch of pepper and a sweet creaminess.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel on the palate, pleasant viscosity and sweetness up front right away. Honey, a touch of tannin and oak, red berries and toffee. Really nice balance between sweetness, fruit and cherries from the port and a dialed-in tannin structure. Not too sweet, not too thin, not too dry or oaky. Port is integrated nicely — not too heavy-handed.

  • Finish:

The finish is long, leaning more and more into the darker, deeper fruit character of the port and spice. It’s pleasant how the port contributes beyond just sweetness or a jammy quality; the richer, more savory aspects of the fortified wine are here, as well.
