  • One supposes it may depend on if one has a preference towards more wheated bourbons or a touch more rye spice. However, I believe this to be a win, regardless of grains of choice.

  • The true value in these experimental releases is actually tasting the resulting whiskey, and I can bet Edmund Taylor would have wanted it that way.

  • The taste has a good spiciness balanced by honey, vanilla, cocoa powder, and a hint of butterscotch leading into the finish, which is long with honey, oatmeal, and spearmint touches complementing the butterscotch.

  • Nose:

Sweet toffee, oatmeal, musty caramel. Rich vanilla, some faint fruits, plums, lavender, perfumey.

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel - astringent and hot, however. Malty, perfume-y and floral. Slightly bitter. Not a lot great here.

  • Finish:

Short, a bit hot. Cocoa, lavender, coriander, vanilla, faint orange peel.

  • Overall:

This is bizarre and all over the place. I can’t say I’m a fan.
