Clynelish Reserve House Tyrell is a limited-edition Highland single malt Scotch whisky released by Diageo in 2018 as part of its eight-bottle Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection. Produced at Clynelish Distillery in northern Scotland, it is a no-age-statement expression matured in a combination of refill casks and American oak ex-wine treated casks. Bottled at cask strength (51.2% ABV) without chill filtration, it originally retailed for around $60.

  • Sharp, a mixture of buttery and vaporous due to the ABV, some honey or syrup sweetness, apples, more spiced peach, cinnamon and peach melba, white floral and white pepper, ginger root, freshly grated nutmeg too.

  • Quite textural and weighty on arrival, but also somewhat hostile. Intense and biting alcoholic pepper slides into maltiness, honey and limestone before fruitiness (peaches and gooseberries) pushes though – though on a much lower level than the nose offered.

  • Extremely well integrated, with a very crescendo-like feel. Rich papaya, mango, and banana linger on the palate, plus yeated bread and caneles.

  • The palate is ripe with honey and mild vanilla but turns slightly bitter halfway through. The finish isn’t exactly what I would call the strongest, and it doesn’t really provide new discoveries to unearth.
