This is an independent bottling of spirit distilled at Clynelish by the Jewish Whiskey Company for their Single Cask Nation Label. Bottled at 23 years of age, this was matured in a 2nd fill Oloroso wine cask and the bottled at cask strength with no coloring or filtering. A friend and I split this bottle, and I've been totally loving on my share so it's time for a review. Let's dive in.

  • Vibrant, classic sherry notes on the nose blow off to reveal notes of mint and walnut, while the palate folds in a more austere character.

  • This is an excellent display of rich sherry without completely killing the underlying malt character. Hooray.

  • Nose:

Berries, currant, syrupy fig and sweet toffee. Faint nuttiness, like pistachio, to go along with the dense, pungent sherry.

  • Taste:

Thick, syrupy mouth feel. Some heat, but it’s well behaved. Pungent pipe tobacco, toffee, sherry and fruits. Blackberry, an array of currant and cherry Stewed fig. Sweet cream and pepper. Decadent, without losing the vibrancy of fruit. Some waxy apple and pear play in the background, a dead giveaway for the Clynelish base malt, which is welcome and great to taste.

  • Finish:

Long, powerful and sweet. Fresh baked bread, cake batter, toffee and blackberry. Rich, decadent is the only word that fits, and lavish. Opulent sweetness and fruits.

  • Overall:

Delightful. Impressive. I didn’t think SCN had it in them for this, but they do. This is excellent. This is an excellent display of rich sherry without completely killing the underlying malt character. Hooray.
