  • The beer barrel finish works OK here, imparting some nice notes, but there are some indicators of youth here, and the beer barrel influence is much more prevalent than the distillate to the point that I'm not sure I'd be able to identify this as a rye whiskey in a blind taste test

  • Nose:

The nose is fairly muted with some youthful heat, some distinct beer-y barley character plus a pleasant banana bread note.

  • Taste:

Sweet, pleasant and malty palate with a bit of heat. Banana pudding, browned butter, lemon peel and warm, roasty grains.

  • Finish:

Fresh-out-of-the-oven rolls, honey, a pinch of cinnamon, malt and sweet oak.

  • Overall:

A solid, tasty whiskey. The beer barrel finish works OK here, imparting some nice notes, but there are some indicators of youth here, and the beer barrel influence is much more prevalent than the distillate to the point that I'm not sure I'd be able to identify this as a rye whiskey in a blind taste test; those sweet, malty notes really do most of the work here. So, overall, this is a sweet, enjoyable whiskey that I can sip and enjoy, but it lacks balance and nuance.
