Cathead Vodka is produced in Mississippi from grains and filtered with charcoal. This expression is honeysuckle-flavored. A bottle retails for about $23.99.
Cathead Distillery, founded in 2010 by friends and blues fans Austin Evans and Richard Patrick, was the first legal distillery in Mississippi. Located in downtown Jackson, the distillery produces small-batch spirits and was a 2020 James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Spirits Producer.
The name “Cathead” originates from a Mississippi blues-era compliment used by musicians to honor respected artists and later appeared in folk art. Mississippi was the last state to repeal prohibition in 1966; Cathead Distillery opened 44 years later and remains the state’s first and oldest distillery.
