Produced by Castle and Key in Kentucky, Restoration Rye is distilled from a mashbill of 63% rye, 20% malted barley and 17% yellow corn. Proof for this release is 103 but will vary batch to batch. Suggested retail pricing is $39.99.
The finish is a most welcome curveball as the savory makes way for the sweet: notes of maple and citrus dancing for a brief moment, just long enough to prepare you for the next sip.
The finish offers peppermint, barrel char, and caramel drizzled atop spiced Christmas cake. A balanced rye that already shows well and is promising for the years ahead.
The ride was smooth but definitely unique. To me, ryes are typically sweet so this one took me a little by surprise which is nice. If you're looking for a more unique rye then Restoration Rye should be on your list.
