There’s a charred oak component here that I don’t think I’ve seen before from a tequila. That flavor develops a more distinct caramel tone as time progresses, finishing with a good hit of black pepper spice. I really like the fact that those barrel aging notes are coming through so clearly and sweetly here.
The palate is on the spicy side and while there's an oaky sweetness, it doesn't come across as cloying. The agave is still discernible in the final result and has a minty, slightly bitter finish.
On the palate, notes of cinnamon sugar, pineapple, and sweet corn cakes are balanced nicely with subtle oak, mild pepper, and a lingering smokiness. It’s a bit sweet for my taste, but overall, Casamigos Anejo is a great sipping tequila and probably the best of the range.
