Casa Obsidiana Tequila Blanco is made from 100% blue agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, and finished for 16 days in French oak casks that previously held Napa Valley Chardonnay from Boisset. It is bottled at 40% ABV and typically retails for around $190. According to the producer, it shows aromas of papaya, white flowers, vanilla and allspice, with black pepper and vegetal notes on the palate.

  • Bright and clean on the palate, the enduring layers of vanilla, chocolate, and lemon made me double check to ensure I’d poured the blanco instead of the reposado, which this clearly evokes. Almost cookie-like at times with its baking spices, though the punchy agave pushes through with a light layer of white pepper.
