This is a 20 year old, cask strength, ex-bourbon matured bottling from A.D Rattray featuring Caol Ila distillate. It was sent to me as a mystery sample and I have filled in the relevant info post reveal after tasting live in the Whiskey Network Discord and getting the reveal there.

House Review
  • Nose:

    Brash peat, lemon lime, bbq, meaty. sweet buttercream.

  • Taste:

    Thick mouthfeel, oily. Heat is apparent but not punishing, lime returns with strong oak presence. Vanilla butter cream, faint stewed fruits, cocoa, toffee.

  • Finish:

    Medium, but crisp. drying, sweet cocoa, toffee, vanilla, ashy peat and a notable lack of heat here

  • Overall:

    Quite a bit going on here, and it highlights some of Caol Ila's best features.
