This is a high-ABV twist on Campo Azul 1940 Blanco bottled at a still strength of 106 proof. Details are far and few between on this recent release, which, though widely available online, doesn't even warrant a mention on the brand's website. Assuming that the specs are the same as 1940's usual fare, the tequila is distilled using lowlands agaves cooked in brick ovens and extracted via roller mill.

It's all about citrus and minerality. Sunbaked grapefruit and lime, lavender, thyme, white pepper and a smidge of flaky sea salt. Reminds me of springtime rain.
Hits you with a blast of roasted agave front and center. Emphasis on the roasted; it's got that caramelized, almost charred quality that brings out tons of amber sweetness. Honeysuckle, white pepper, limestone and bell peppers add a delicate character, veering away from the citrus vibes hinted on the nose. Really yummy mouthfeel as well, pairs excellently with all that agave character.
Lovely finish brimming with herbs, brine, aloe and honey. The alcohol content is unmistakably high, but the roastiness hides any ethanol burn.
Can't believe I haven't heard more hype surrounding this bottle! The agave presence is out of this world — forgive the expression, but it really does put the agave back in agave spirits. This is a great example of what still strength tequila should taste like and a promising sign of things to come from this surprisingly overlooked distiller.
