Camikara 12 Year Old Cask Aged Rum is produced in India. It is aged 12 years and bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) in 750 mL bottles. The rum is available for around $100.
All in all, I find this one really engaging even it’s not quite what I was expecting. It has character to spare, and I’m sure it would probably shine through quite brightly in just about any classic rum cocktail or tiki drink.
A cane juice rum from India that actually delivers! My only critique would be that the distillate doesn’t shine as bright as I would’ve liked due to the long ageing, and maybe the sugar – although, if I’m being frank, I wouldn’t have been able to tell it has anything added. Otherwise this is delicious, similar to a more elegant long-aged agricole rhum.
It’s a high proof rum, so this is to be expected, but the heat took me a bit by surprise. The finish is a bit shorter than I would like, but it remains pleasant as the complex notes fade. Altogether, this is a delicious first effort for Camikara. I’m excited to see what comes next.
