Created in 1860 by Ugo Borghetti in Ancona, Italy, Caffè Borghetti is a 40-proof coffee liqueur made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans, brewed espresso, alcohol and sugar. Initially called Caffè Sport, it was first sold to travelers on the Pescara-Ancona railway line. Today, the liqueur is still produced using the original blend, with the company partially owned by Ugo’s great-grandson, Roberto Borghetti.
Its aroma is that of a slightly bitter, brewed coffee bean, with just a hint of sugary sweetness. Its flavor tips the opposite direction with an even more pronounced sweetness followed by the flavor of slightly burnt coffee beans.
If I weren’t already a french-press coffee drinker, I’d switch to Caffe Borghetti every morning. This is like fresh brewed boozy espresso. Highly recommended!
