The nose is heavy with agave, but it’s lighter than expected in the palate. Still heavy agave, mind you, but tempered with vanilla and some citrus. After a few sips it goes down pretty easily; the initial heat mellows out and you get a nice mouthful of agave and wood.
A pale straw color, and a smoky, almost mescal-like taste with a lot of heat. The net-net, if you’ve only had Cuervo gold, you’re gonna love this, if you’ve had the good stuff though – this disappoints.
This rather austere, somewhat watery reposado seems to rely entirely on the wood to impart flavor, mostly in the form of spice and sweetness, which completely overshadows its "agave-ness."
Creamy, nutty, toasty aromas and flavors of nougat, chocolate, roasted pineapple, and pecan with a soft, shy, dryish light body and a warming, brisk finish.
