  • Nose:

Sweet and really beautiful on the nose. The agave influence is certainly present and plays nicely with sweet malt notes. Malt and agave guide the nose, joined by notes of green apple, walnut, chestnut, marzipan, lime zest, graham cracker, browned butter and a kiss of oak.

  • Taste:

Light to moderate viscosity. Agave, oak, tannin, orange peel, pepper, black tea and a vegetal note that's reminiscent of a green bell pepper. The palate is distinct and good, but it doesn't deliver on the sweet rich profile promised by the nose.

  • Finish:

Tannin drives the finish, joined by some agave character, lovely malt and a sprinkle of cilantro

  • Overall:

This is a good, very distinctive malt. The tequila finish is integrated very nicely and complements the base spirit well. The level of oak and tannin is ideal, as well. Of all four whiskeys in this series, this is the only one where I really wished the proof was higher, as the relatively thin viscosity hurts the pour a bit. Still, this is a very good and enjoyable whiskey.
