  • Nose:

The nose is delicate and complex, with caramelized brown sugar, prunes, figs, honey, apple and some tropical fruit character — kiwi and charred mango — as well as a pleasant bready note.

  • Taste:

This whiskey has a slick, oily viscosity and a dynamic flavor profile. There's a good deal of spiced oak character, delivering tannin, cinnamon, gingerbread and tobacco. From there, we transition to some fresh kiwi, apple and grapefruit juice — but only briefly, as we're soon back to plenty of tannin, plus leather and French bread.

  • Finish:

The finish is satisfying and extraordinarily long — opening with rolls slathered with warm butter, then moving to a fruity profile of kiwi and white peach. That slowly segues into leather, tobacco, tannin and cracked pepper. A touch of granulated sugar lingers, as well as some red apple.

  • Overall:

A wonderful single malt from Bushmills. It strikes a beautiful balance between light fruitiness and dark, brooding oak, spice and tobacco. Great whiskeys take you on a wild but well-structured ride, and this is a prime example.
