Bushmills 1608 400th Anniversary Edition was released in 2008 to mark the 400th anniversary of the distilling license granted to Sir Thomas Phillips in County Antrim. Bottled at 46% ABV, this limited whiskey is notable for using malted and unmalted barley along with crystal malt, a grain more commonly associated with beer.
Rich flavors of caramel, cocoa, and malted barley at entry; midpalate adds flavors of tapioca, old honey and butter cream on top of the intense graininess. Finishes malty sweet, buttery, oily and multilayered. Very nice.
While it is a good whiskey it’s also a wee bit overpriced. I really enjoy this whiskey, but I would enjoy it even more if it were around $80 instead of the $100 – $120 I see it for all over town and the internet.
