Introduced in February 2024, Bulleit American Single Malt is part of the Bulleit Distilling Co. permanent lineup. It is made from 100% malted barley, distilled at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery and aged at least four years in new charred oak barrels. Bottled at 45% ABV, it retails for around $60 per 750ml.
The flavor runs sweet and floral, turning a touch peppery at the end, turning to wood and pepper on the finish. Taken as a whole, it’s a light example of an American Single Malt, with no real surprises beyond that single point.
As the American single malt landscape is still very diverse with different takes on this new whiskey style, Bulleit American Single Malt is aiming for something all its own with this flavor profile. However, I’m not a super fan of it, as I find it a little too sweet and unbalanced for my liking. It might appeal to some, however.
A light and approachable American single malt that is almost entirely focused on converting bourbon and rye drinkers to this blossoming new(ish) style of whiskey.
