Released in July 2024, Bulleit Barrel Strength Batch 08 is an uncut, unfiltered straight bourbon with a proof of 121.8. It is distilled from a high-rye mash bill and aged in virgin American white oak casks with level 4 char, while the cask heads are charred to level 2. Sourced from an undisclosed Kentucky distillery under Diageo, it is priced at about $60.

  • Flavors are bittersweet and there's a bit of young corn along the edges. Not really built as a sipper. Would recommend adding water or even better, using in a whiskey-forward cocktail like a Mint Julep or a Manhattan.

  • Nose:

    Rich on the nose, apple butter, sweet toffee, tobacco and oak. A nice baking spice, gobs of sweet oak and pleasant crème brûlée and a hint of orange peel.

  • Taste:

    Rich on the palate, pleasant and easy drinking for 60% ABV. Tons of sweet caramels and caramelized sugar, butter cream, light tobacco, sweet oak and a hint of orange peel and apple butter.

  • Finish:

    Long finish, toffee and butter cream, lovely sweet oak, orange peel and tobacco.

  • Overall:

    Bulleit is back, and this release of barrel strength is up there with the early batches I loved.
