  • While the finish feels a little gritty and even a little smoky for a whisky that is otherwise elegant and refined, it’s a perfect way to honor Bruichladdich’s past — and future.

  • Bruichladdich Eighteen is likely to please existing fans. With mixed savory components on both the nose and palate, it may command a steeper learning curve from folks newer to the brand.

  • The finish has a pretty good length and it balances both a robust grains taste with a fruity flavor (plums, pear) without being too sweet.

  • I should repeat this point for clarity: I did not dislike it, but I expected somewhat more from it all things considered, and found the whole thing to be average for its class.

  • The Bruichladdich Eighteen is a delightful example of higher-age cask management, pulling in elements that balance it very well. Have a bottle of this around to share with others.

  • Really pleasant and exceeds the 30 Year in my mind - this pour is not only accessible, it's rich, balanced and my favorite modern Laddie.

  • Nose:

Beautifully rich on the nose, tons of sweetness, cream and honey with a pop of smoke, light barbecue ash and loads of lemon curd and salinity.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, full of apple, caramel and toffee, sweet pastry and butter cream. Faint smoke on the palate, blended nicely among some berry character, minerality, toffee and honey. Decadent and leans sweet before smoky, savory before salty. Rich and easy to enjoy.

  • Finish:

Long finish, rich and heavy on honey once more. I'm amazed how much this finish reminds me of the delicate, decadent Phyllo pastry with honey, soft sweetness, rich texture.

  • Overall:

Really pleasant and exceeds the 30 Year in my mind - this pour is not only accessible, it's rich, balanced and my favorite modern Laddie.

  • Score:

    92
