  • Nose:

Powerful peat is joined by waves of barbecue smoke and balanced by sandalwood and mango.

  • Taste:

Quite viscous on the palate. The syrah really shines through here with bright, sweet fruit notes. Gritty peat, charred meat, oak and sage meet a sweeter profile of vanilla, brown sugar, cherry, plum and raspberry. Cinnamon and cracked pepper bring a bit of spice to the party, as well.

  • Finish:

The finish is long and packed with ash and char initially — after a while, sweeter notes of honey and brown sugar arrive, flanked by iodine and papaya.

  • Overall:

Delightfully rich and complex whisky. It's meaty, smoky, herbaceous, fruity and sweet all at once. The syrah cask influence is very prominent but not overpowering — it's perfectly additive to the base spirit and works gorgeously. There's so much going on here, and there's not a moment of the sip I didn't enjoy. Sweet meets peat, and it's beautiful.
