This is the second entry in the 2025 release of Bruichladdich's annual Octomore series. Each offering in the Octomore lineup is considered to be some of the world's peatiest scotch whisky, as measured by phenol parts per million, or ppm. Just like 16.1, Octomore 16.2 is distilled from 100% Scottish mainland-grown concerto barley malted to 101.4 ppm and aged five years. The difference comes in the casks used for aging. While 16.1 was aged in first-fill bourbon barrels, this scotch is aged in Oloroso and Bordeaux casks for four years and then finished in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel casks for the final year. It's bottled at 58.1% ABV and has a suggested retail price of $244.99.

  • The cask power on the nose is bonkers, with the peat a background player.

  • Nose:

The nose is sweet, sticky and filled with the same sort of honeyed sweetness 16.1 delivered, but with a way jammier profile, offering up dates, figs and raisins.

  • Taste:

The palate is sweet and nutty, with praline, nougat, caramel cake, red wine, raisins, tobacco and — of course — some smoke.

  • Finish:

Just like 16.1, the peat is at its peatiest on the finish. Plenty of barbecue smoke is joined by honey, caramel, praline, currants and fig.

  • Overall:

Lovely stuff. The smoke works in beautiful harmony with the dried fruit and rich dessert notes.

  • Score:

    92
