  • The character here is soft and restrained, and that spice is really too tiny to merit the descriptor “note.” It’s just enough to give the rest of the profile a little contrast.

  • This is a lovely dram that grows on you with each successive sip, layering on new complexity but never overwhelms.

  • Complicated as all get-out, but as is often my experience with Black Art, it’s not something I truly love.

  • Pleasant although not powerful, Black Art 11.1 shows restraint can deliver incredible whiskey through and through without tearing your head off.

  • Nose:

Rich peach cobbler, honey, apples and pepper on the nose. Vanilla bean, rich malt, a touch of slate and minerality, lovely plums.

  • Taste:

Moderate palate, layered and complex. Quite a bit of sweet cream and honey, buttery toffee, pastry and lemon peel. Peaches and cream continues with a pleasant pop of minerality and wisp of maritime smoke.

  • Finish:

Long finish — my favorite part. Peach, honey, apricots, toffee and soft smoldering oak lace together.

  • Overall:

Pleasant although not powerful, Black Art 11.1 shows restraint can deliver incredible whiskey through and through without tearing your head off. A fascinating perspective from the house of Octomore!
