Released in February 2025, this is the fifth release of Sexy Motor Oil Whiskey. Sexy Motor Oil is a collaboration between Breckenridge Distillery and Breckenridge Brewery that drops each Valentine's Day, in which the distillery releases a bourbon finished in stout beer barrels, and the brewery releases a stout finished in bourbon barrels. The Sexy Motor Oil beer is made from a grain bill described as "the most complex" of any brewed by Breckenridge Brewery, composed of rye barley, roasted barley, double roasted crystal malt, chocolate malt and oatmeal. The whiskey was finished in Sexy Motor Oil beer barrels for 10-13 months and then bottled at a cask-strength 105.42 proof. This limited release is distillery-exclusive, released Valentine's Day a.m. at a suggested retail price of $100.

Sweet and pretty straightforward nose with clear beer influence. Barrel char, coffee grounds, sweet cream, maple, cherry, cinnamon, chamomile and cornbread.
Moderate mouthfeel. Lots of beer influence on the palate. Sweet praline and cinnamon meet barrel char, espresso and heavy beer character, plus cherry, cocoa powder and cappuccino.
Beer influence continues onto a finish that's medium in length, joined by sweet cream, plenty of char, chocolate and coffee grounds.
It's interesting — this is a stout finish, but I'm getting some notes that are more reminiscent of an ale or even an IPA. Curious. Either way, it's a solid whiskey, one that's probably better suited for big beer fans who also like whiskey than bourbon purists.
