Bowmore 46 Years Old is a rare Scottish whiskey that has been aged in a Fino sherry cask for 46 years on the Isle of Islay. Only 72 bottles were released in 2012. It comes in a hand-blown glass bottle by Scottish glassmakers with a sterling silver capsule, housed in a hardwood cabinet with a sterling silver plaque. This expression currently retails for upwards of $60,000.
The palate entry is off-dry, salty/yeasty and mildly cracker-like; at midpalate a peppery quality emerges on the tongue that complements the oak resin.
On the palate, the whisky begins sweet (especially honey), followed by a basket of exotic fruit and nuts similar to its aroma, becoming drier and distantly smoky on the finish.
