Boann Single Pot Still Marsala Cask is an Irish whiskey produced from a mashbill of locally grown malted barley, unmalted barley, oats and rye. It is initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels from Brown-Forman, then finished in French oak Marsala butts sourced from Cantine de Vinci. Bottled at 47% ABV in 700ml format, it carries a suggested retail price of $69.99.
The Sicilian marsala cask-finish has produced a big, brooding whiskey with flavors of orange marmalade, cinnamon stick, gingersnap, oak spices, clove, stewed fruits, and dark chocolate. The finish has burnt caramel, cinnamon, clove, and ground ginger.
This whiskey is very fresh and clean on the palate and as such is one that you can keep going back to. With this being said, this is the sort of whiskey that you wouldn’t get tired of after a glass or two and this is something that, for me, earns it a lot of points.
