  • Although this whiskey is wonderful, I do find it to be priced on the high end for a 7 year old whiskey, even if it is cask strength.

  • Blue Spot is bottled at cask strength which results into a sumptuously rich and complex Irish whiskey.

  • I could easily see why this might do well in a blind head to head, but evaluated on its own, the flavor turned up to 11 experience is just too much for me.

  • The taste is spicy, oaky, and nutty with a very complex balance of baking spices, black pepper, touches of tropical fruits, and a hint of hazelnut. The finish is amazingly long and complex with a nice tropical character. Outstanding!

  • You get the barley, you get the fruit, you get the distinctiveness of the Madeira and the high proof, but it is as if it is telling you its story in a comforting wise voice.

  • A special pour, Blue Spot 7yr delivers in a way few hyped, limited releases can, especially in the Irish Whiskey arena. It's worth tracking down for sure.

  • Nose:

Sweet, creme filled and packed with the smell of rising break, buttered biscuits, cinnamon buns, cream cheese sweetness and red berry notes. Currant, date fruit, toffee and light baking spice make this a complex pour to nose.

  • Taste:

Thick and rich on the palate, the proof helps this pour deliver a syrupy, flavorful texture. Sweet cream, roasted almonds, fig, strawberry, nutty sherry and vanilla cream build on the palate. The ABV is in check, brings a richness without any heat or punishment. Complex, fun, easy to drink but a blast to dig through all of the flavors.

  • Finish:

Long finish, laced with pineapple, honey, toffee, strawberry and a touch of cherry tart. Fun, interesting, a long finish worth enjoying.

  • Overall:

A special pour, Blue Spot 7yr delivers in a way few hyped, limited releases can, especially in the Irish Whiskey arena. It's worth tracking down for sure.
