The second batch of Blue Run's High Rye Bourbon (batch 1 pictured here for lovely studio imagery) follows up on the success of the first - with bottles selling far faster than anticipating, and requiring a follow up batch to keep whiskey drinkers satiated. Once again produced at Castle & Key, bottled for Blue Run and overseen by Jim Rutledge of former Four Roses glory, this bottling aims to be quite the pour. Let's dive in.

  • Impressive, delicious, complex and brimming with more potential to reach even higher. The tannin, complexity and enticing flavors are there, and are just asking to be dialed up. Batch 2 is a winner.

  • Nose:

Funky honey, waffle cone, toffee, rich buttery biscuits and maple candies. Light oak character, lots of citrus and a touch of floral character. Light tannin.

  • Taste:

Medium to rich palate, honey, cream, maple and waffle cone. Nice oak structure, cocoa, honey, orange peel. Wild Turkey on steroids? Hello.

  • Finish:

Long finish, touch of orange, luxardo cherry, peppery and rich, lots going on. Really interesting how much fruit develops here, but the high rye packs a punch that works really well here.

  • Overall:

Impressive, delicious, complex and brimming with more potential to reach even higher. The tannin, complexity and enticing flavors are there, and are just asking to be dialed up. Batch 2 is a winner.
