Black Whiskey, crafted in Lima, Peru, is made from a mashbill of 60% Andean black corn, 30% malted wheat and 10% malted barley. It has a 45% ABV and hosts a suggested retail price of $54.99.
The palate is drying and distinctly woody, though adding water coaxes out some vanilla and dusty cocoa powder. Clove and black pepper tingle mark the finish.
It leaves room to be an all-in-one whiskey. For those times when I need a full-bodied spicy dram, I will pour this neat. And when I need a softer, more kind dram, I will add drops of water or throw an ice cube in.
