Bhakta Bourbon 2013 is distilled from a mashbill of 99% corn and sourced from 2013 stocks. It is aged 9 years and 5 months, then finished in Armagnac casks. Bottled at cask strength, it rests at 50.5% ABV.
This whiskey absolutely explodes with flavor I can only describe as a warm summer night in New York city in the 1940s. Vintage, timeless, and utterly magnificent.
I was underwhelmed by this first stab at Bhakta Bourbon. I can’t tell you if it is the root bourbon or the Armangnac finish, but I feel something here is just plain off, and the whiskey never really gelled into finding its place. It’s OK, but these days one expects a little something from a mature, 9 year old bourbon with a cask finish on it.
