Bhakta 2013 Bourbon, part of the Single Vintage Spirits collection, begins with a 99% corn bourbon sourced from MGP in Indiana. Following a maturation period of 9 years and 5 months, it's finished in French oak ex-Armagnac barrels before being bottled by Bhakta Spirits in Vermont.
This bourbon took some wrestling to untangle various notes, and there were moments where none really sang to their own benefit; the result is something that, while delicious, is ever so slightly, occasionally muddled. It’s an enjoyable challenge, to be sure.
Too often I try a whiskey with a lot of hype and a fancy bottle, only to find an incongruously unsatisfactory and weak flavor. This whiskey is the opposite.
