Bero Coffee Draught is a limited-edition collaboration between actors Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr., who, long after meeting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, went on to found a nonalcoholic beer brand and a coffee brand, respectively. The beverage combines a stout-style NA beer brewed by Bero with freshly-roasted 100% arabica coffee sourced by happy. Each can clocks in at 0.36% ABV and contains around 5mg of caffeine.

  • It’s really more of a rich bock than a creamy stout, which is perhaps why “stout” is not in the name of the product, but who’s keeping score.

  • Flavors of chocolate shavings, walnuts, malt and citrus immediately place this as a stout-style beer. The coffee character plays second fiddle. There's some recognizable fruity and floral vibes drifting around in the background, but nothing strong enough to tip the scale into morning coffee territory.

  • Nose:

Soft hints of malt, dark chocolate and coffee grounds. There's something about the combination that smells remarkably similar to soy sauce. It's not salty, per se, but there's a savory quality that feels extra noticeable thanks to the carbonation.

  • Taste:

Flavors of chocolate shavings, walnuts, malt and citrus immediately place this as a stout-style beer. The coffee character plays second fiddle. There are some recognizable fruity and floral vibes drifting around in the background, but nothing strong enough to tip the scale into morning coffee territory. If I had to give a guesstimate, I'd say this is 70% NA beer, 30% coffee. The ratio does well not to overwhelm in either direction.

  • Finish:

Caramel and effervescent citrus hit the back of the palate before vanishing in a flash.

  • Overall:

An interesting experiment in nonalcoholic possibilities. Though I'm still wrapping my head around the preferred drinking occasion for this (with breakfast? Over lunch?), I can imagine this earning its fair share of fans among the NA beer crowd, particularly those who like zero-proof stouts.
