Released by Heaven Hill in September 2025, this is the second Bernheim Barrel Proof release of the year — you read that right, second. Despite that letter "C" in the name, which always indicates annual release No. 3. Heaven Hill's explanation: “Batch B925 turned out so well, we got ahead of ourselves and accidentally labeled it Batch C925. Consider this a happy little mistake - it makes your bottle one of a kind.”

A cute response to a minor labeling error — and hey, perhaps the faux pas will make this some sort of fun collector's bottle.

Aged 7-9 years after being distilled from a mashbill of 51% wheat, 37% corn and 12% malted barley, this edition of Bernheim Barrel Proof is bottled at 18.4 proof.

  • Continuing the struggles the brand has faced since its barrel proof inception, Bernheim Original Barrel Proof Batch C925 reaches new lows with an overwhelming astringent oak presence that significantly detracts from the overall tasting experience.

  • Nose:

Gobs of maple syrup and caramel are underpinned by a big French bread note, plus some green apple and cinnamon.

  • Taste:

Very nice viscosity here. Some heat and a beautifully dense, sweet palate. Leather, coffee grounds, peanut brittle and some tannin balances out the sweet profile, which consists of French toast slathered in maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar, praline, Luxardo cherry, cinnamon and gingerbread.

  • Finish:

Medium in length, the finish turns into dark fruit initially, with cherry syrup and plum, then concludes with honey, French bread, a touch of mint and gingerbread.

  • Overall:

Delightful batch of Bernheim Barrel Proof. It's rich, sweet, bruising and nicely balanced. Is this the most complex pour in the world? No. But for lovers of bold, sweet whiskey, I'd recommend it.

  • Score:

    91
