  • This is a fantastic single malt that sits in that sweet maturation pocket, balancing the younger, crisp, citrus notes of a younger whisky with the introduction of more oak and tropical fruit influence.

  • Oddly, much of this feels like it wouldn’t be out of place in an island-born malt, the fade-out evoking a strangely maritime character that had me dreaming of seaweed, for better or worse.

  • I would (and will) enjoy this unpretentious whisky paired with some nice fresh sashimi on a cool spring day.

  • This release from Benriach is a very good one, although I couldn't shake the feeling that a couple more proof points would turn this into something truly special.

  • Nose:

Rich and bready, this pour is full of sweet cream, rich red berries, warm pastries and honey with a touch of slate and minerality on the nose.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel. There's a whole pile of apple and warm apple crisp, brown sugar, a faint hint of smoke and ash.

  • Finish:

Long finish. The pour comes together here with apples, pears, peaches, vanilla bean and a touch of smoke.

  • Overall:

This release from Benriach is a very good one, although I couldn't shake the feeling that a couple more proof points would turn this into something truly special.
