  • Though not complex, the finishing adds some well-toned notes of peat and a weighted sweetness that makes for a casual yet versatile experience.

  • Bear Fight American Single Malt is sweet, full-bodied, and easy to drink. I found the peat finish overbearing when compared to the more delicate flavors of the nose, but it is still overall a good choice for mixing or sipping.

  • Its peat smoke is dominating but refrains from going overboard. I would have liked a touch more age on it to provide a heavier backbone throughout, however, it makes it a good gateway whiskey for those curious about peat smoke but have a fear of tasting it in their mouths for the rest of the day.

  • Overall, this won't blow you away, but it's a really solid first release for a distillery previously not anywhere near my radar. For a new producer releasing a 3yr single malt, they are far far ahead of the other single malt players when releasing their inaugural products, and that really counts for something in my book.

House Review
  • Nose:

    Sweet, packed with apples, cream, honey and some pecan nuttiness. It's not wildly complex, but it's expressive, especially once you consider the age.

  • Taste:

    Palate is thin to medium in viscosity, but heat is in check. Again the fruitiness continues with pleasant apple crumble, caramel, a touch of nuttiness and sweet cream. Faint pepper on the back palate, light kiss of oak.

  • Finish:

    Medium finish, wraps up nicely with some tannin development, toasted almond, caramel and once more baked apple pie experience before taking off.

  • Overall:

    Overall, this won't blow you away, but it's a really solid first release for a distillery previously not anywhere near my radar.
