I find the end result to be quite unique. It’s refreshing in today’s ever-crowded and ever-similar marketplace. In addition, I’m pleased to see that Beam decided to come in at a price point that allows everyone to give this release a try to judge for themselves.
A short finish offers more of the same, plus cocoa powder, oak, spice, and pepper. Though a bit one dimensional, it's easy drinking and plays well on the rocks or in cocktails.
Simple and sweet up front, it feels thin, like fake maple syrup, with more sweet vanilla carried on a rather light body, almost resembling some rice whiskies.
The maple note is particularly off-putting, and while I could see mixing a cocktail with this, on its own it’s a product that is simply too far gone into its own little world.
All this yields a warming whiskey that leads with caramel and spice on nose and palate, finishing with a hint of cocoa and a distinctly juicy, almost tart cherry note.
