That campfire element fades into a considerable finish with lingering candy apple sweetness and a bit of drying barrel char. A truly unique and enjoyable dram. Barrell, I’m sorry I ever doubted you on this one.
The palate is dry and shifts between floral and herbal notes on the front, leading into a heavy dose of prunes, honey, and trail mix, highlighted by dried apricots, towards the back. A short finish offers tannic oak with pops of citrus and pepper.
If you have traditionally thought yourself meh on single malts (as I often do), I urge you to find this, if you can. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure why, really, because I've enjoyed just about every Barrell I've tasted, but this is definitely up there. Kudos!
Enjoyable and layered in complexity, American Vatted Malt is an inspired release that’s full of flavor and unlike any Barrell Craft Spirits has previously released.
