  • A rather different Barrell expression, but one that still hits all the high notes.

  • Barrell Craft Spirits Gray Label Dovetail marries three different whiskeys and three different finishes - rum, port, and Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Barrels - to create a whiskey that’s more refined than its standard counterpart.

  • Overall, if you wish the original Dovetail had more character, more flavor and most importantly: more tannin, you'll be a fan of this release. The age shows without diminishing any of the lively fruit character and sweetness that I've come to love in Dovetail.

  • Nose:

Bright and syrupy, bold and full of jammy fruity, honey, deep oak and red berries. Powerful and complex, a touch spirit-y, no shortage of presence on the nose.

  • Taste:

Sweet and rich on the palate. There's a bit of heat, but for 130+ proof, it's no surprise either. No punishing heat, it's packed with jammy fruits, rich red berries, honey, toffee and some bold, sweet oak. It's Dovetail dialed way up, giving up some of its nuance and silky layers and trading them for powerful, syrupy notes that hang on the palate for ages.

  • Finish:

Long finish, maple syrup, plum, cherry and toffee reign supreme while undercurrents of oak, butter cream and jammy wine.

  • Overall:

Overall, if you wish the original Dovetail had more character, more flavor and most importantly: more tannin, you'll be a fan of this release. The age shows without diminishing any of the lively fruit character and sweetness that I've come to love in Dovetail.
