Sweet buttercream on the nose, honey, orange peel, cracked pepper, light barrel char, toffee and honey. There’s a lot going on here, primarily in the vein of dessert and baking spice.
Moderate palate that develops nicely full of sweet oak, pepper, toffee, a hint of cinnamon and a touch of orange peel and raisin bread.
Long finish on this pour with a good bit more oak than in previous New Year releases and a touch more fruit, as well, bringing more complexity forward than I’ve experienced with previous New Year releases. Orange peel, creamy vanilla, a touch of tobacco, char, cola, toffee and honey sees it off.
A great way to usher in 2024, this release demonstrates Barrell is adept at staying on its toes while releasing unique, multi-provenance whiskey blends all year long.
