Barrell Bourbon Batch 036 is a blend of straight bourbons from Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, aged 7.5 to 15 years. It is bottled at 114.44 proof in Kentucky with a mashbill of 79% corn, 16% rye and 5% malted barley. The bourbon retails for about $90.
All in all, this is a pretty cool profile, one that brings together brighter fruity notes with sweet, aromatic oak and rye spice. It fits perfectly into the particular niche that Barrell Craft Spirits has already carved out for themselves...
In conclusion, Barrell Bourbon Batch 036 impresses with its deep and rich nose, offering complex and fruity aromas of yellow cake with caramel icing, orange creamsicle, tropical banana, raisins, and oak.
Back from nearly a year hiatus since their previous batch release, Barrell Craft Spirits brings a label redesign and delivers a consistently high quality blend with Batch 036.

House Review
Nose:
Big and bright, the nose is all dessert and delicious, nutty, decadence. Toffee, butter cream, pralines and almonds, orgeat, orange peel, custard and big, sweet, tobacco. Rich, loads going on.
Taste:
Pleasant, rich palate. Fat, rich, it’s layered and sticky without being super high proof or super hot. Tobacco, orange peel, pipe tobacco, toffee, fudge, espresso and some custard again. Really satisfying.
Finish:
Long finish, lots of oak here mixing well with brown sugar, honey, toffee, custard, more tobacco and strong oak.
Overall:
A really competent batch here, one of my favorites in quite some time. It’s a bruiser, a height of the 30’s (so far).

92
