Bardstown Origin Series Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon has a mashbill of 53% corn, 39% wheat and 8% malted barley. Aged for six years, it is bottled at 106 proof and hosts a suggested retail price of $49.99.
A high-wheat bourbon of this level, like the Bardstown Bourbon Origin High Wheat Bourbon, is always interesting to try. It is well-balanced, offers solid tasting, and is a good bourbon overall.
At the end of the day this is a very impressive, easy sipper with a lot of sweetness and a fairly unique flavor profile thanks to the way the wheat grain shines through in a way that is very much celebrating it.
At just six years old, it’s an impressively built bourbon, and while it may not be the most complex Origin Series release, the body and mouthfeel are unrivaled.

House Review
Nose:
Sweet cream, caramel, honey and light batter and some pepper. It’s really sweet, but it’s nicely structured with some oak and balancing spice.
Taste:
Moderate palate, light bitterness at first immediately offset by big sweetness, caramel and honey. Light on oak, not as much structure here as the nose.
Finish:
Moderate finish - a touch hot but loaded with nougat and cream, honey and toffee.
Overall:
I like this but it’s lacking a little polish. There’s a lovely sweetness and tons of wheat character showing throughout but it’s clear there’s some maturing to do here to build in extra structure, attach that bitterness and improve the palate viscosity and finish. It’s very good, but I know Bardsdtown can reach higher and I can’t wait to see it - this is the foundation of a crazy good wheated bourbon.
