  • The dark, fruity notes that the Cognac imparted made the experience even richer and fruitier than I thought would be possible.

  • Nose:

The nose is gentle and equal parts oak, cognac influence and sweet fluffy goodness: vanilla cake, peaches and cream, banana bread, coffee, chicory, brown sugar, butterscotch. The cognac comes through with spiced fruit notes: cherry, plum, cinnamon.

  • Taste:

Lovely palate with a rich viscosity. Cognac steers the ship without ever feeling out of balance. Plenty of deep, dark fruits are here: Luxardo cherry and plum are joined by cinnamon, clove, tobacco, waffle cone, salted caramel and nougat.

  • Finish:

Uber-long finish. Astringent oak, tannin and char lead the way, plus apple skin, buttercream frosting and cinnamon. Cognac character slips in at the end with some syrupy dark fruit.

  • Overall:

A lush, decadent release from Bardstown Bourbon Co. Cognac is the focal point but doesn't overwhelm the blend. This is beautiful whiskey.

  • Score:

    92
