Released in September 2023, this is the 11th entry in Bardstown Bourbon Company's Discovery Series. Notably, this is the first Discovery release to include Bardstown Bourbon Co.'s own distillate in the blend. Unlike other Discovery releases, this batch is made exclusively with Kentucky bourbon. The final breakdown of the blend is as follow: 73% 13-year-old bourbon, 21% 10-year-old bourbon and 6% 6-year-old bourbon distilled by Bardstown Bourbon Co. Bardstown Bourbon's contribution to the blend is a wheated bourbon. The two sourced bourbons feature mashbills with 13% rye being the second-most-prominent grain in the mashbill.

  • Another solid offering with #11, bolstered by the addition of a high wheat bourbon that was estate-distilled by the brand. Well done.

  • At nearly 120 proof, the bourbon is a bit hot and tight with chewy tannins and the French oak provides for a less sweet bourbon profile.

  • It is a delicious, full-flavored bourbon, and an overall great start to Bardstown incorporating some of its own whiskey into the blends.

  • Another top-notch Discovery Series and early evidence that younger BBCo. bourbon will be an asset to this already impressive line.

  • A lovely Discovery indeed, this is a clear winner for me over Discoveries 9 and 10, as good as they were.

  • Nose:

The nose opens with sweet fruit and honey, toffee, caramel apple and a hint of black tea and orange peel. Layers and layers and layers of spice, sweetness, a hint of fruit. There’s a lot going on.

  • Taste:

The palate is viscous and has a pleasant complexity to it once more. There’s a good deal of oak here, which is unsurprising given the components. Honey, heather, vanilla and orange peel dance with clove, a hint of cinnamon and heavy toffee, brown butter and creme brûlée. The oak is pleasant and sweet, it’s present but not overbearing, nicely integrated. Pleasant tobacco character on the back palate.

  • Finish:

The finish seals the deal — more complexity here once again, weaving together sweet oak, caramel candies, brown butter, toffee and a hint of clove, orange, pepper and a pop of cherry.

  • Overall:

A lovely Discovery indeed, this is a clear winner for me over Discoveries 9 and 10, as good as they were. This release brings an additional level of complexity, oak and a killer finish that reaches new heights.
