  • I'll be honest, Balcones isn't always a strong performer in my book but this expression is hands down the best I've had from them to date, and it embodies what I love about single malts: American or otherwise. Unique, complex, flavorful, it changes from sip to sip and delivers flavor well beyond its years, literally.

  • The taste is tart with green apples and lemon zest, along with herbal touches of basil and fennel, a slight nuttiness, and muted spices in the background. The finish is long with a citrusy tartness balanced by dried fruits, sandalwood, and honeysuckle. Excellent

  • Full-bodied. Black and white pepper, ginger, earthy cinnamon, and vanilla. A solid Texan single malt.

  • There is an oaky/woody character here that swings from old oak to sawdust and that raw lumber craft character popping up now and then is the one point of the Balcones Single Malt I’m not a fan of. Outside of that raw woody note, this is a good whiskey and one I’m always happy to drink.

  • This is Texas in a glass, instantly transporting me to a field on a hot summer Texas day. It’s easy drinking for the proof, and each sip allows you to pull out more flavors.

  • Nose:

Peach rings, bold oak, pepper, orange peel, honey and cream. Rich, interesting, fun and packed with character.

  • Taste:

Medium on the palate, expressively fruity with the viscosity to back it up. Peach rings like few others, a bright apple pie, nutmeg, sweet buttercream and a touch of oak. The tannin grows with time, as does a pepper character. The creamy sweetness, bold peaches and cream and the sweet toffee notes are a winner here, in what is easily the most flavorful and interesting Balcones I've had yet.

  • Finish:

Long finish, sweet and peachy, with a touch of tropical mango and pear. Honey, peppery and a pleasant, malt driven backbone.

  • Overall:

I'll be honest, Balcones isn't always a strong performer in my book but this expression is hands down the best I've had from them to date, and it embodies what I love about single malts: American or otherwise.
