Baker's Single Barrel High Rye Bourbon Whiskey Limited Release, distilled in November 2016, is aged seven years and nine months and bottled at 107 proof. This unfiltered, single-barrel bourbon comes from barrel #000047341 and is priced at $75.
With this particular bottle, I thought quality built from nose to taste to finish, resulting in a bourbon I didn’t love at first sniff but really appreciated by the end.
Baker’s High-Rye Single Barrel Bourbon delivers a sweet and inviting nose, but the palate and finish reveal a mix of bright and bitter elements that feel slightly out of sync.
The palate is a medium weight, with toasted seed notes carrying the spices, fruit, and sweetness toward the finish. The flavor is balanced for both neat sipping and mixing into cocktails.
Featuring a high rye mashbill and an almost 8 year age statement should get fans of Baker’s Bourbon excited, but its sip struggles to continue that feeling.
A really nice pour from Baker’s, this adds a bit of complexity and squashes the peanut fun of regular Baker’s, and could be a great way to get into Beam’s releases if their signature profile is less up your alley.

House Review
Nose:
Rich nose, loads of pie crust, nutmeg, peanut brittle, honey, toasted oak, pralines and a good deal of pepper and vanilla bean.
Taste:
Moderate palate, pleasant and rich. Not too much heat, loads of caramel. The peanut brittle is back, a touch of cocoa and peanut butter, rich butterscotch and a crackle of pepper.
Finish:
Long finish, tons of peanut brittle, cola, caramel, cocoa and more pepper.
Overall:
A really nice pour from Baker’s. This adds a bit of complexity and squashes the peanut fun of regular Baker’s. It could be a great way to get into Beam’s releases if their signature profile is less up your alley.
Score:
88
